World Autism Awareness Day occurs on 2nd April every year as was declared in 2008 by The United Nations General Assembly.  This day is about raising awareness, acceptance and inclusion surrounding those who have been diagnosed with Autism and the need to improve their everyday lives.

What is ASD or Autism Spectrum Disorder?

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a lifelong developmental disorder.  It affects how people behave and interact with the world around them.  About 1 in 150 Australians have ASD.

Having ASD does not mean your child will not have a fullfiling life.  In fact many very successful people including scientists, singers, actors, business people and everyday people have been known to have ASD.

High school can be very scary for students with ASD and their parents as well.  At Townsville State High School we offer an Inclusive Education program run by our Head of Department Steph Vernon.  To get in contact with Steph you can call the school on 47218 777 to discuss what we can do to help you.  For more information on Autism Spectrum Disorder, please see the link below.
