PURPOSE OF PROGRAM

The goal of the program is to know our learners and strategies to support them to achieve success and reach their potential in school and life. This is achieved by increasing student self-awareness, self-regulation and resilience. With the aim of maximising learning time measured through reduced school disciplinary absences (SDA) and increased attendance and academic achievement as identified in Education Queensland's Equity and Excellence education strategy. 

PERSONAL AND SOCIAL CAPABILITIES PROGRAM

Stanton Lodge supports students to improve self and social awareness and develop skills and strategies to engage more successfully in the school environment and in life.  This is achieved through explicit teaching of the Australian Curriculum's Personal and Social Capabilities and transferring this knowledge into practice through intentional contexts in the learning areas of English, Mathematics, Science, Health and Physical Education, Humanities and Social Science, The Arts and Technologies. Engagement in the Personal and Social Capabilities Program at Stanton Lodge aims to improve outcomes and social emotional and behaviour goals as identified by their base school using data informed practices.

There are a variety of programs that are utilised to teach the Personal and Social Capabilities, dependent upon the ages and requirements of the students. These include, but are not limited to, Brain Talk, PAUSE program, Neuroplasticity, Second Steps, SenseAbility, Zones of Regulation, Big Life Journal programs. There is a strong emphasis on Brain Development to assist students to become more self-aware aiding students to

manage themselves more effectively.

ATTENDANCE AT STANTON LODGE

Students are nominated by the base school by submitting a Student Support Request found at the bottom right of the webpage. If the nomination is successful, the student will attend the following term.​


Year level​Stanton Lodge Attendance requirements
Prep to Year 4

2 days per week for the nominated term

(For example:  Mon/Wed or Tue/Thur)

Years 5 - 8

1 day per week for the nominated term

(For example: Tue or Thur)

TARGETTED PROGRAM SUPPORT

At Stanton Lodge we meet the appropriate needs of students who are nominated to attend by providing targetted intervention including:

  • Intensive teaching of social and emotional skills 
  • Individualised features, targeting specific behaviours
  • Mentoring support and check-ins
  • Positive reinforcement of appropriate behaviours
  • Strategies for staff to contain and de-escalate behavioural intensity
  • Addressing personal and social capability needs for the student
  • A case management approach
  • Monitoring and review    

STANTON LODGE AND SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP

School visits​

Stanton Lodge classroom teachers will engage in 3-4 base school visits across the term. Prep to Year 4 school visits occur on a Friday, Year 5 to 8 visits occur on Wednesday.
Weekly feedback to SchoolsStanton Lodge classroom teachers will provide weekly feedback via email to base schools around progress, behaviour, strategies and information pertaining to the student.
End of term ReportsBase schools will receive student reports in Week 10 of the nominated term. This will report progress towards student goals aligned to the personal and social capabilities.
SuspensionStudents may attend Stanton Lodge if on suspension at the base school.
Stakeholder meetingsStanton Lodge may be able to value-add to student stakeholder meetings.

Due to class sizes at Stanton Lodge staff are privileged to get to know the students quite well in a short period of time. As part of school case management process, Stanton Lodge staff can be invited to provide valuable insight into students and support strategies.​ 


WHAT DO STUDENTS NEED TO BRING?

  • Fully enclosed shoes 
  • Full school uniform
  • Hat
  • Own morning tea and healthy lunch
  • If students have mobile phones, they must remain on silent in bags inside the classroom at all times

Located at the rear of Townsville State High School, access is via First Street, Railway Estate. 

Refer to map below for the most appropriate access method.

Gates open at 8.30am for a prompt 9.30am start.

On site and street parking is available. Students will need transportation to Stanton Lodge, and parents/carers are required to sign out their child upon collection at 2.30pm. Stanton Lodge does not have the capacity to provide after-hours care.
