Townsville State High School is home to one of the oldest and most successful school-based basketball programs in Australia. We have a long and proud tradition of players and coaches achieving success at all levels of representations, from local to international.
The aim of the program is to provide students with the opportunity to grow and develop in academic, social and basketball environments. This is achieved through:
- quality coaching and facilities that develop and contribute to a player's individual and team skills;
- a program that maximises a player's potential by planning for and monitoring development;
- a system of support, guidance and encouragement to meet the sporting, educational and social needs of the individual as both player and student;
- opportunity to compete in a variety of tournaments, including the Champion Basketball School of Queensland.
The program runs all year round as a timetabled subject and extra-curricular activity. Students also participate in an adapted LWB program, focusing on positive mental health strategies.
Being part of the Tropics Program will contribute not only to the development of the player as a basketballer but as a person as well.
Trials for all interested students occur in early term 1. If you have any questions, please contact the program manager, Sue Anderson on 47218 777.
